You can't get what you want, because what you CAN get you don't want. Think about it. If a man has a woman pursuing him and he knows he can have her easily, he will not return the favor. However, if the woman shows disinterest he will knock himself out trying to win her affections. The same holds true with women. Men who act nice and flatter a woman will most often get rejected because the woman knows that she can have him. But if the man acts rudely, she will knock herself out trying to win him over as well.
Also, you have to realize that there are always more fish in the sea. Most often the man or woman is pursuing someone else at the time and won't bother. Why have her when you can have HER?
